My experience: Over 50 stage, film/video and commercial credits, including producing and directing. I would describe Bill’s acting style as direct, frank, honest, sincere, trustworthy, and passionate. Bill is an incredibly inspiring teacher who challenges me in a way very few teachers have done. His candid and direct approach personalized to each individual actor’s work is admirable, as he identifies each actor’s unique acting problem(s) and encourages each of us to produce truthful and exciting work, irrespective of our level of experience.
Bill is a passionate, incisive and intelligent acting coach. Bill’s workshop has been professional beyond my expectations. After just classes I booked two paying jobs in one week. Bill got me to make adjustments that got me past previous casting hurdles and old acting habits.
Bill and his teaching style is passionate, challenging, patient, absorbing, energetic, persistent, and inspiring. One of the most important qualities that Bill has is integrity, it is apparent in our class because in is apparent in Bill himself. Bill’s class results in actors who have the ability to affect audiences through emotion. It creates confident actors that use the workshop as a comfortable and trusting environment to explore new ideas, feelings, and characters through themselves.
Before Bill’s class I had done about five shows and was looking to learn more about acting. I had taken a beginning acting class and a beginning film class which left me feeling unfulfilled. The confidence I needed was not there. My acting changed after studying with Bill Howey but my life has also changed. I would describe Bill as passionate, challenging, nurturing, brilliant, insightful, encouraging, intense, and respectful. He is one who seeks our interest, desires and our success more than his own. He is more concerned about fostering our growth as an actor than saying the words we all “want” to hear.
Bill has opened up a whole new world full of emotion and made it a safe place to express those emotions. He has given me a level of confidence I never knew I possessed. He has tapped into the core of my being and is teaching me how to trust my intuitions and find the inner strength that has always been rooted there. He has pushed me to levels I never thought I was capable. I believe God uses key people throughout our lives to mold us into the person we are called to be. And I truly believe God has used Bill Howey in a mighty way in my life.
I started studying with Bill five years ago. Before him I’d kicked around NYC, LA and San Francisco. I’d spent two years at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and many years studying with other coaches. I had pieces of the puzzle that make a professional actor but never could put it together. With Bill, I started to work. I had a real understanding of what it takes to get a job. I believe in myself, not some fake confidence that is so prevalent in the industry.
Is it painful to grow or challenge yourself? Yes. Does the ego get bruised when you reach beyond where you’re comfortable. You bet. Does it feel brutal? Sometimes. Is it brutal? Never. The bottom line: I work in Television and theater and I make more money doing that then I spend on acting classes.
The Actor’s® Menu approach is also taught in Denver, CO with Bill’s protege Michael Nuccio taking the reins of the leading acting workshop in Denver, Colorado.
